About Us

Yorkeys Knob Residents Association (YKRA) is a Not-for-Profit incorporated community organisation that was established over twenty years ago, primarily to represent the interests of residents in ensuring that development and environmental protection in Yorkeys Knob is carried out in accordance with standards that meet their expectations. You can download a copy of our constitution here.

Membership is open to any person over the age of 18 who resides in Yorkeys Knob and also local business owners. Yorkeys Knob Residents Association is run entirely by volunteers through a hard-working Management Committee. Over the years, the Association has played a prominent role in battles to successfully prevent bad development proposals from going ahead.

The Association is collaborating with Cairns Council to develop a Disaster Resilience Plan for Yorkeys Knob that is activated in the event of the town being isolated by flooding from a Cyclone. The Disaster Resilience Plan aims to improve resilience infrastructure, document response protocols by all parties, establish a mechanism to monitor the wellbeing of our most vulnerable residents, and provide general guidance to the community in disaster planning.

Yorkeys Knob Residents Association hold two major annual festival events; the mid-year Festival of the Knob and the Christmas Twilight Markets. They include onstage entertainment, food and drink vans and scores of market stalls. Santa Claus is a visitor to the Christmas market, arriving on the beach from the sea in an outrigger canoe. These events are intended to reinforce the strong sense of community that exists in the town and are an important opportunity to raise funds for the running of our organisation. They are also fun!

Yorkeys Knob Residents Association hold monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of the month from 7.30pm at the Yorkeys Knob Community Hall, Wattle Street, Yorkeys Knob.
